Scholarship for Rose in Botswana
Botswana | Africa
Project Summary
Rose is studying for her Ph.D. at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. One of her desires is to use her education to establish a biblical foundation for the role of women in South Africa in light of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Botswana has been hit very hard by the AIDS epidemic; approximately one in six Botswanas has HIV, giving Botswana the second highest HIV infection rate in the world after Swaziland. When she completes her studies, she will return to the University of Botswana as a lecturer in theology and biblical studies where she has already earned a tenured post. A very interesting feature of the department of religion and theology is its training of public school teachers who will themselves teach biblical courses in the secondary schools of Botswana. From this critical vantage point, Rose will influence not only future pastors and church leaders but the very grassroots of Botswana society.
